The mini-chain of Polpo continues to impress and quality standards are thankfully maintained throughout their branches. LFM headed to the Notting Hill branch and perched on bar stools to admire/scrutinise the impressive venue and floating staff.
The standout dish were the infamous Polpo meatballs served with an intense tomato sauce. The rabbit ragu pasta was particularly lush, however the croquette portion sizes were a little menial. In comparison to other restaurants in this pricey end of London, Polpo offers OK value for money and saves a trek into central London.
The venue is spacious and there is plenty of room for those Notting Hill Bugaboos, although the restaurant feels a little grown up in the evening to bring the sprogs.
Just before I left the house, my flatmate said her mate had told her it wasn't any good so I went in with low hopes... I was however really impressed with the food offering and the ambience. Real buzzy and slick service. Particularly enjoyed the squid ink risotto, arancini balls and nduja. The carafe of Montepulciano was also a fantastic accompaniment to the dinner. Not bad at all!
Visited Polpo in Notting Hill a few days ago and have to say I was very disappointed.
All the Staff who served us were not at all friendly and I actually felt I was a bit of a burden to them as a customer because we had a few questions and simple requests. The service was also very slow as it took ages to get attention to order, we were given menus then just left for ages before anyone bothered to approach us. I have to point out that the place was not at all busy either.
Will not be returning here.
Friday night in Polpo Notting Hill !
My friends and I went to Polpo before catching a movie at the cinema nearby.
The dinner was AWESOME !
First of all, the atmosphere is quite simple but warm and friendly.
Unfortunately,it was that busy we couldn't get a table straight away, however, we were suggested to go to the bar and have dinner there.
We were welcomed by Alexis, the bar manager, who took such a pleasure to chat with us.
Then, he recommended some cocktails to start with.
Negroni /Old fashioned with Campari & Gin/ Basil Martini, "evreything was made to open our palette".
About the most important (the food), we had : arancini, tartare of mackerel, fritto misto, spinach pizza, zucchini salad, meat balls ; honestly, it sounds fresh, it smells fresh, IT IS FRESH!
We drank some white wine to go along the dinner, first Gavi and then some Custoza (recommended by the barman).
As my friends were Italian, and as I'm French, we were quite picky for the wine, but Alexis advised us very well.
We didn't have any dessert or coffee as we were quite in a rush for the movie, however we will be back for sure to to try at least the chocolate salami.
The bill is reasonable and quite realistic about what you're having ...
We'll be definitely back !
Thank you Polpo Team !!!!
