Operating independently for 15 years, in 2014 the Duke of Cambridge joined up with Riverford, the Devon farm and vegetable box company. More than just a happy marriage of compatible businesses, the owner of the Duke – Geetie Singh – and the owner of Riverford – Guy Watson – sealed the knot on their own marriage in June 2014.
Apart from having produce supplied by Riverford, little else has changed at the Duke. Its care for ingredients stretches to a strict fish policy, ensuring only UK fish caught through sustainable fishing with minimal discards are used. A big, often buzzing outer room for drinkers leads to a welcoming, bare-bricked dining room, lit by a large skylight. The blackboard menu features seasonal gastropub staples.

A gorgeous organic pub hidden in the depths of Angel. Delicious food at reasonable prices, with a great atmosphere. I love the events Riverford holds in the back room as well - the summer fete with a complimentary facial was a particular favourite!

The Organic beers are great too, and cheaper than alot of regular lagers and ales in the neighbourhood
Went here for an eagerly awaited christmas gathering yesterday. Place looks fabulous, menu sounded delicious, impressed with the organic certificate, relieved it seemed nice and quiet when we got there - a real gem we thought... Avoid this place. The starters were below-average at about £7-£10 a pop, main courses were a travesty at £18/£19 we expected something quite nice. Actually inedible: Roast Pork was in fact a stew of too sweet pork, stewed root vegetables and a couple of boiled carrots a huge plate of gooey sweet mulch. Hanger steaks were served cold, smelled putrid and served with a potato rosti which was literally burnt to a crisp. Friendly staff offered a free dessert and didn't charge for my steak which was appreciated. With a deep breath we gingerly ordered desserts: bowls of stewed prunes were served cold! The chocolate cake was like a rock of butter left in the fridge for a bit too long. Left feeling cheated of quite a lot of money and embarrassed I'd booked it. Don't make the same mistake I did.
Highly recommend. Had a delicious meal here. Yep it's not cheap but it is good quality food and the portions we had were very decent. All seven of us enjoyed our different choices and were absolutely stuffed by the end.
