Sketch Glade

There's a woodland theme at this bar and dining room at Sketch, courtesy of Carolyn Quartermaine and Didier Mahieu - the artists behind the design. It serves breakfasts, lunches, afternoon teas and evening repasts, plus drinks in the evening.

Breakfasts prove popular, with pastries, porridge, granola and fresh juices alongside omelettes, eggs Florentine and a '9 Conduit Street' - a breakfast of tomato concassé, poached eggs, Cumberland sausage, black pudding, portobello mushrooms and bacon powder taking its name from the address.

The main lunch menu focuses on poshed-up comfort food, with dishes including macaroni cheese, steak frites and a very fancy sounding Galician beef and foie gras burger. An impressive selection of patisserie and extravagant afternoon teas do brisk business, too.

Sketch Glade says
In 2012, Founder Mourad Mazouz, Artists Carolyn Quartermaine and Didier Mahieu created an enchanted découpage forest; which appears like something half-remembered and yet completely contemporary. Taking inspiration from early c20th stationery, they re-painted, enlarged and reversed the design, printing it onto hundreds of metres of paper. Each piece is handcut, and découpaged to the walls.

June 2017; the quintessential spirit of The Glade is embellished: Carved wooden shelves, rich velvet upholstery in distinctive shades of green, violet and cobalt blue, coloured mirrored table tops and a tinted glass ceiling were commissioned by Mazouz to a team of custom craftsmen.

More… A lush carpet of pine needles and spongy grass? not quite! A new forest floor for the glade, a carpet like no-others imagined by visual artist and sculptor Alexandra Kehayoglou.
And more... A self-playing piano, serenades the Glade from day to night. A statement piece, handcrafted by makers at Dio Davies Ltd

We had a lovely evening of cocktails & tapas in the glade, which was as good as the cocktails- exceptional, highly recommended

Being a lucky lady, I had been treated to a generous Sketch voucher and was excited to dine in The Glade for an indulgent brunch. I went very early on a Sunday morning (due to lack of planning and a last minute reservation) but to be honest, it was great. The room theme is present throughout supported by fantastic moss-like carpets, twinkling lights and fauna wallpaper and accessories. I ordered scrambled eggs with The Full English and was delighted (and a little intimidated) by the two full bowls of food that arrived shortly after. The eggs were buttery and delicious and the bowl of bacon, sausage, black pudding and tomato was unbelievable.

I also ordered a peach, pineapple, coconut, lime and honey juice which was just exquisite. The whole experience was magical, decadent and heartwarming. Having had that experience, I now wouldn't hesitate to return and spend my own hard-earned cash on a breakfast of champions.

Sketch is a fascinating place! We booked the Glade room for Sunday brunch and loved the woodland/Midsummer night's dream feel, it's quite a special place and was perfect for a surprise birthday treat. I had the fish pie and the London to Paris patisserie and they were both delicious. I was a little worried that the portion sizes would be tiny and I'd still be hungry but I was very much full. A visit to the toilets is a must, I can only compare it to the scene from Willy Wonka with Mike Teavee and his white suit, I definitely felt as though I'd stepped into a parallel universe. Each room is so different in Sketch and I would definitely return to experience one of the other rooms.

My criticism however is the service, one of our servers was very nice but the others were very cold and not particularly friendly. Also two of our party were served their meal and myself and another were brought our french fries but it was over 5 minutes later that we had to wait for our main dish and there was no apology for the wait. It's a bit of a bugbear of mine when restaurants don't serve all of the food at the same time so this wasn't great but it certainly didn't ruin our experience. It's on the pricey side but you kinda know that before you go!

Was lucky enough to visit the Glade for their Xmas launch party and it's truly a wonderful venue. sketch as a whole has a reputation as one of the best in London and the Glade stands proud as a wonderful outlet for top quality cocktails and indulgence. All the other elements of sketch are worth a visit too of course, it's all designed to cater for specific occasions

Don't look at the photos on this listing, it just doesn't do Sketch justice. I went here, to the main restaurant, for a special occasion (it's prettttyyyyy pricey, beware). The food was mind blowing, the cocktails were even better (I recommend the pornstar martinis, and the 200 I tried after that, I forget the names, because, ahem, they were that great).

I think the menu changes daily or at least weekly but I'd say be adventurous with your choices. Things might sound revolting but actually taste amazing. Oh, and take a trip to the loos. 100% the most bizarre loo experience I've ever had in London (in a good way, obvs).

What a beautiful place !!

Perfect for drink your tea on the afternoon or some drinks on evening.
