This place is literally across from my office yet it took me months to give it a go. There was a chain of forgettable eating places in that exact spot before and it stood to reason the new one would be just like the ones that came and went. It’s not. Tanakatsu is beautiful. I’ve never been to Japan but I imagine that’s how modern minimalist Japanese interiors look like: concrete walls, wooden benches. Ceramic plates they use to serve food are adorable and I want to keep them all. When we asked for tap water, they brought out a jar with a cork stopper and mint sprigs inside.

It’s a Katsu place, so the focus of the menu are katsu curries and teriyaki dishes (although they also do sushi and rolls). All mains are at £12.5, which puts them awkwardly into this no-man’s land where it’s no longer an Itsu, but not yet a proper restaurant. They don’t add service charge either. All mains come on a bed of rice and with a bottomless cabbage salad (the dressing is served in a wonderful ceramic pot with a unique ladle). Most of the clientele at the time of our visit were Asian, which to me is always a good sign.

Unfortunately, I am not a huge fan of Japan’s fried offerings (I still need my sushi and ramen fix first), but I will definitely come back at some point and will recommend Tanakatsu to all my friends, who seem to only ever order chicken katsu curry at Wagamama.

Had a really lovely girl's night here. We were struggling to agree on a place in Angel, where we could have sushi and not break the bank. After Googling a million places I came up on Tanakatsu, saw it's quite new and decided to give it a go. We all absolutely loved it. It's focused mostly on chicken and pork katsu dishes, including katsu curries, but they also have a selection of sushi rolls they offer. We had a few things to share and then all got sushi and it was great. From the spicy tuna to the soft shell crab and the nigiri and sashimi it was top notch. The staff was attentive and friendly and we will definitely be returning for round 2!

Great food, really great service and really friendly staff. Thoroughly recommend it!!

A friend of mine told me to try this place. After his visit I tried a Pork Katsu Curry. I totally get why he recommended this place. Best Katsu Curry in London.

Fast service ,friendly staff...

Definitely I come back soon
