Think of yourself as a foodie? Of course you do. Think you know all about pairings? Naturally! But did you know Muscadet has been considered one of the world's classic oyster pairings for centuries? It’s just that many of us are only just discovering it! Yep, there’s a fresh new flavour combination in London Town and it’s calling your name at Wright Brothers with seafood eateries in Borough, Battersea Power Station and South Kensington – as well as delivering to your door.
Indeed, the restaurant group – which specialises in the freshest seafood and fish expertly prepared by talented chefs – is teaming its molluscs with Muscadet thanks to its signature freshness and vibrancy. The crisp, light-bodied white produced near the Atlantic coast in the Loire Valley – one of France’s most diverse wine regions, no less – is made exclusively from the Melon Blanc grape and serves up subtle citrus notes, high acidity and saline character alongside distinctive minerality (to use wine speak).
But why are oysters and Muscadet such perfect bedfellows? “It’s because the dry, crisp wine complements rather than competes with the delicate, briny taste of oysters to avoid overpowering them,” explains Leonie Cooper, food editor at Time Out. “Better still, it’s the traditional pairing from the same region of western France where Muscadet is made and where the pairing has been enjoyed together for centuries.”
At Wright Brothers, you can see what all the fuss is about by getting stuck into the summery (and very food-friendly) wine accompanied by ocean-fresh oysters for just a pound-a-pop. Better still, if you order 12 oysters, you’ll be able to snap up a bottle of Muscadet for just £40.The delicious deal is hugely popular amongst London foodies, so you’ve got to book, while availability depends on the restaurant so check ahead.
Alternatively, why not get your chops around the pairing from the comfort of home by ordering the oyster gift box with Muscadet wine from the online store? The bundle comes with a dozen of the freshest oysters, a wooden-handled knife for shucking and a bottle of vibrant white Muscadet for washing everything down with. Simply store in the fridge until you’re ready to shuck and slurp! Don’t forget to use the HOME20 code at checkout to bag 20% off.
To shuck like a pro, hold the oyster firmly in your hand with a tea towel and the hinge facing you. With the other hand insert your knife into the hinge and twist until the shell pops open. Slide the knife along the top shell to cut the muscle then remove. Finally, slide the knife under the oyster to free it from the bottom shell. And the Muscadet? We’re pretty sure you don’t need instructions for that.
Book a table or buy the gift box to enjoy the pairing from the comfort of home.
