The first kosher-supervised eaterie in Brent Cross Shopping Centre has been eagerly received. Tables are packed (even outside) with shoppers needing a break from trying on shoes. You walk in past a bakery – who can resist the challah and golden bridge rolls? The menu is jokily written to appeal to children and encompasses dishes that cover the long opening hours, from all-day breakfast, through pasta, pizzas, salads and sandwiches. The appetisers are generous: smoked salmon wrapped around palm hearts, portobello mushrooms or aubergines with cheese. Thai noodles could have had more vegetables, and the pasta sauce could have been more intense, but families with children will appreciate this kind of food: the choice that lets one person have haddock and chips while another tucks into american pancakes with syrup. At less busy times it would make sense to stop off for an Israeli breakfast or a cream tea. Also worth a try is the food you wouldn’t usually cook at home: fried egg and chips, deep-fried cigars and vegetarian kibbe. Service is slow, but this allows time to work up an appetite for one of the ice-cream desserts: perhaps pink paradise (soft ice-cream with strawberries).

I must say that I was so unhappy with the treatment that I got today. I felt that the staff were rude. Had no manners and talk and laugh loudly. Around paying customs. The salad was not fresh and when I expressed my feeling to staff I got nothing but unwelcome stares whilst they spoke on their language as if to mock me. Managment please do something quick before your business is put on problems. Brent cross kanteen is the one I'm talking about!!!

Stay away from this place!I went there a couple of days ago with my mother and I was shocked. The Staff (all Polish girls) were incredibly rude and aggressive, they don't work, they just chat and talk loudly as if they were in a market. I asked for a chocolate milk shake, a cappuccino and a croissant (all together £11.00!) and the waitress didn't even invite me to sit down and I had to ask her and another waitress three times to have a table for two. First they seemed to be surprised because I wanted to sit down (?), secondly, they asked me the same question 5 times always in a very RUDE manner. I am a very easygoing person and I have worked in catering extensively but I have NEVER seen or experienced this level of rudeness and lack of manners in the UK I don't mind if a waitress doesn't speak English as long as she is polite. Not only these waitresses don't speak English or understand it, they are BEYOND WORDS rude and have no manners. Food is AWFUL. If you're going there because you're Jewish (or just to have a cup of tea), find another place. It is not worth it and is incredibly expensive for what you get. I am happy to spend when I go out but in this place you get nothing for the price they ask you, not even a thank you or a goodbye. On top of that, the milk shake was horrible, didn't taste like chocolate and the croissant was not fresh and didn't taste good at all! Please do yourself a favor and don't go there!AWFUL, AWFUL!!!

Horrible place! The staff are rude and obviously don't realise they are being paid to serve customers. Paid £5 for my son's cheese on toast which had to be returned the first time as it resembled charcoal. Not really sure how they can justify £5 for 2 pieces of white bread with melted cheese that doesn't actually taste like food. Neither of us could eat it and no one cared. Huge mistake paying £16 for lunch here (including automatically added service charge!), and seriously regret being too hungry to walk to Leon or Pret upstairs! Never again.

I loved it, ive been back there every time i go shopping. The staff are very sweet and the restaurant is packed. The menu is huge and the atmosphere is like new york. Its electric and i am now a massive fan. The portions are huge and the prices are amazing. Best coffee around too. More branches please.

This restaurant just gets worse....the staff are not trained, they understand little English and when they get it wrong they don't say sorry! I will no longer be using Kanteen in Brentcross as the experience is too stressful.
