This Sloane Square Indian restaurant comes from Vineet Bhatia - the guy behind the venue's previous incarnation (Rasoi), as well as the launches of The Cinnamon Club nearby and Zaika, over in Chelsea.
The tasting menu is modern-Indian, with dishes including ghee scallops with edamame and pearl cous cous, kapi lamb chops, malai chicken, smoked salmon and grilled lobster. Desserts include a rose-ginger jubjub with chai ganache and chocolate fennel.
Reimagined and redesigned, VBL’s cuisine and interiors reflect the chef’s 23-year journey from his birthplace of Mumbai to Chelsea and the vision that he and his wife Rashima set out to accomplish more than 20 years ago. An experience of five courses, proceeded by a selection of delicate canapés and ending in a flourish of desserts; in a single evening guests will have a culinary exploration of Vineet Bhatia’s life in food.
Marrying east and west, his dishes are an accumulation of three decades spent pushing the possibilities and challenging the perception of his native cuisine and display his continuous devotion to creating something new. Forever evolving, the restaurant has launched an 'experience menu' – a tasting menu that melds flavours from across the regions of India with Vineet’s signature twists in the form of European ingredients and refined presentation.
The dishes at VBL evoke nostalgia and harness exciting flavour combinations to forge a new direction for Indian cuisine in London and include smoked prawn chaat, raan uttapam, Patiala chicken, glazed pork chop and duck korma. A full vegetarian menu is also on offer with dishes such as pao bhaji, Patiala chickpea and glazed paneer chop.
