We celebrate London’s restaurant scene as much as we can – whether it’s shouting about the hottest chefs in town or the best seats in the house – so we’re very happy to see OpenTable doing the same.
The online restaurant discovery and reservation platform has announced its inaugural Restaurant Awards to honour the restaurants that define eating out in the capital. “The dining landscape in London continues to set the bar for creativity, resilience and hospitality,” explains Laure Bornet, senior vice president of international growth at OpenTable. “OpenTable’s first Restaurant Awards recognises the spots that truly move the dial – the places shaping culture, setting standards and standing the test of time. We’re proud to shine a spotlight on dining excellence and drive real impact, with 63% of UK diners saying they would be more likely to book a restaurant they haven’t visited yet if it has an award.*”
There are three categories. The first is OpenTable Icons – culinary landmarks selected by an OpenTable-appointed industry panel including experts such as Adam Hyman, owner of CODE Hospitality and The Good Food Guide; Jimi Famurewa, food writer and restaurant critic; and Lorraine Copes, founder and CEO of Be Inclusive Hospitality. Next is Restaurateurs’ Choice, voted by those who work in restaurants. And finally, People’s Choice, which is where you come in. From grande dames to gastropubs, it’s your chance to show some love to the spots you cherish the most – The Wolseley, The Harwood Arms, St. JOHN Smithfield, Hawksmoor St Pancras and Trinity are among those in the running**.
Voting is now open. Better still, voters will be in with a chance of winning a £250 gift card***. Categories include the Bucket List, Gastropub of the Year, Neighbourhood Gem, Opening of the Year and Standout Service. Look out for the announcement of the winners on April 27.
What are you waiting for? Get your votes in for the restaurants you return to time and again before March 23 and let the celebration of culinary greatness begin.
