On a fine day you’ll spot customers at Zengi’s pavement tables puffing on shisha pipes and sending plumes of perfumed smoke up in the air. It helps mask the far less appealing smog from Commercial Street’s heavy traffic, the roar of which you can still hear inside the restaurant. On the informal ground floor, chefs are busy grilling meat over charcoal and pulling freshly baked flatbread from the pizza oven. For a quieter time, head to the basement to sit at intimate booths tucked under dimly lit alcoves. The menu is predominantly Iraqi, but features Turkish, Persian and Lebanese influences, bringing together the best dishes from each region. For a top meze selection, choose the fresh salads (a towering portion of zingy tabouleh was stuffed with parsley) and dips including a chunky houmous and smoky aubergine moutabal. Mains are consistently excellent: the Zengi mixed grill provides a taste of gently marinated chicken, melt-in-the-mouth lamb pieces and thick, lean köfte. Our khema (a dense stew of lentils and minced lamb) was authentic, and the turkish pizzas light, packed with meat and full of flavour. Every bit as tasty – and excellent value too – are the falafel and the grilled meat sandwiches.

Just went there today with my partner. We ordered some Baba Ganoush, Falafel, Lamb main and a Halloumi wrap. All were really delicious and definitely the most tasty Middle Eastern wrap I have eaten in London. Being a foodie, I will definitely recommend this place.

I discovered Zengi about 6 weeks ago and since my first meal I have been hooked on the place. The restaurant is always spotless, the staff are friendly albeit a little standoff-ish and awkward at times but the mixed grill is the best Ihave ever tasted. It is simply devine mouth watering chicken pork and lamb and the rice is done to perfection everytime. I have eaten in Zengi about 3 times everyweek since I first discovered this place and it has never let me down once. Top marks guys

very good food ,, relaxed but friendly service and wew are going back again ,, loved it.

Absolutely brilliant. I've been to my fair share of Turkish restaurants - the majority of the time I find the food bland but the food here is full of so much flavour. I ordered the mixed grill meal which as cooked perfectly.

It was delicious, flavorsome and succulent! I'd highly recommend this restaurant.

The staff were a little slow on service but overall I definitely visit again!

Fantastic for grills , been going there with my partner for two years now and it's never disappointed us , the variety of their dishes makes our trips worth it for sure , defenatily recommend Zengi over any of the ones around

went to this corner restaurant last week with my group friends based on some good reviews we red on the net ,,, and it was good for it. the place is not the most sephesticated i have been , but it was friendly and they had a beautiful downstairs caves for groups which we had one of ,, and the food was good as well as the atmosphere ,,, not bad over all... would recommend it.

Sporadic service- plates not cleared- given 2 min warning that mains were coming. The waitress was unable to recommend anything... In hindsight perhaps that was a clue because the starters were mediocre and the chicken and lamb shish dry and tough. The salad had no dressing and Included a (big) pile of onion. Was embarrassed to have invited a friend there. Overpriced and over rated. Definitely will not be back.

The food is below average (in particular, the mains were pretty bad). The prices don't reflect the low quality food you are being served. Overall, the experience was very disappointing.

Great restaurant. Strated off havinf a falafel wrap: really nice: home made fresh, which is always good. Went one day in for a meal: friendly staff, menu nice: mixture of lebanses mezes and unique starters from middle east: i ate the zengi mix grill: amazing! flavour deep into the chicken which is hard to find and the lamb shish melts in your mouth. Lebanese wines to top it off. Have returned there again and the food still remains great.

good place with friendly service . I had lamb shish and lebanese beer wich both was fantastic the place itself not very busy but food is cooked right in front of you .. vey good overall.

Had an office Christmas do there last week. Was very impressed with the thoughtful decor and the waitress who was very patient and attentive. Food was delicious, and a bargain compared to what I've paid before on Edgware Road. Will go again with the girlfriend.

This place is below average and it is really overpriced. I had a mixed kebab (lamp, chicken, and adana) for the price of 12,50 which I find far too expensive. It was really mediocre. The Turkish restaurants in Dalston do far better ones for 3-4 pounds less. I tried an Iraqui starter which came with chilli sauce from a super market bottle - No way that was prepared in that place. I was shocked to pay 23,50 at the end. Service was slow by the way, a bit too laid back for my taste.
