Held every Friday, this long-running south London market is heaven on earth for bargain-hunters.

Situated at the end of buzzy Bermondsey Street, this market is a south London institution. Every Friday, locals with magpie eyes flock here to trawl around 200 stalls for bargain china, silver, furniture, glassware and pottery. Not everything here would make it onto ‘Antique’s Roadshow’, but sifting the fab from the tat is part of the fun. In recent years, the market has expanded to include fashion, craft and food stalls, but antiques are still the focus. Just remember to arrive early: trading begins at 6am and most stall-holders will be packing up by lunchtime. When you’re done bargain-hunting, lively Bermondsey has loads of lunch options. This is an absolute treat on Friday morning. Get there before everyone else at 8am on a cold dark winter's morning (trust me on this one) grab a bacon sarnie and indulge your inner magpie.

This market is like a total secret. When I've visited it's always been relatively quiet compared to other London markets, yet the items on sale are really far more interesting, unique and exciting. The sellers themselves are talkative and knowledgeable - always willing to give you honest advice on what you're looking at, or even just chat away about the stories behind each item if you're just browsing. I've made a few purchases here and they are always exceptionally cheap.

This is a hit and miss... i have bought amazing things here that I use week in week out and there are things I buy because they are just so great but i don't use because they are just so delicate. Either way, I try to go every Fri morning for a bargain...

Very misleading directions ! London bridge station is 37 min away !! Trust me you do not want to attempt going on a rainy Friday night!!
