Brockley Market Van Dough

Time Out says

Street food headlines at this friendly south London market that’s proud of being ‘cooler than Borough’.

It may be located in a car park (Lewisham College’s, to be precise), but don't let this put you off. Award-winning Brockley Market is a terrific place to pick up some top-quality groceries.

The focus is on locally-sourced seasonal food, whether that’s a joint for your Sunday lunch, fresh fish, your basic supply of fruit and veg, or cakes, artisan breads, cheese and charcuterie for a special occasion. Highlights include free-range poultry from Fosse Meadow, organic veg from Wild Country Organics and excellent Spanish cheeses and chorizo from Flavours of Spain.

If all this makes your mouth water, which it probably will, there are loads of street food stalls to sate your hunger. Grab a porridge bowl, sourdough pizza or vegan Crosstown doughnut, and chow down on one of the benches. This is essentially a very good local farmers’ market, so the vibe is lively and friendly.

There’s plenty of parking a short walk away, but it's advisable to arrive early. The stalls only open from 10am-2pm and popular items tend to sell out. Oh, and remember to stuff some carrier bags in your pockets for all the goodies you’ll be taking home.

Top Tips:  Brockley Market is cash-only, so make sure you swing by an ATM first.

What a hangover treat! Mulled cider and a delicious Korean pork and rice dish in the fresh air followed by a walk in the park and a strong coffee. One of the better farmers markets in London.

I love love love this market!!! Here are the reasons why.

1) its never over crowded and unbearable

2) they have it ALLLLL fresh veg,wild game,cupcakes,street food,wine....

3) there's a very friendly relaxed vibe about the vendors here... You almost feel as if you've transported back in time to when people smiled when they sold their goods.

Though its not a large market its very well equipped and you can indulge in some delicious halloumi fries to fried chicken burgers and fresh oysters! Thee best part is that you won't come away feeling ripped off :)

This amazing, vibrant south London market deserves nothing less than 5 stars.

Apart from excellent fresh produce from local farmers, it offers something for every taste. The fruit and veg always looks fresh and it is on display according to the season. We love spending our Saturdays there and I can recommend going early as it is only open until 14:00.

My recommendation is to start with a nice and warm cup in your hand - if you are a coffee person, go for a delicious Americano from the tiny corner coffee cart and if you are a tea person, "Good & Proper" is a truly proper option! Drink in hand, do have a walk around all the stalls and get inspiration for a great Saturday dinner. If cooking is not on your agenda, Brockley offers the best selection of hot food - whether you want to have pancakes for breakfast (a big shoutout to the mouthwatering options from "The Crunch"), a truly delicious burger for lunch from "Mother Flipper" or one of the best pizzas the city has to offer from "Van Dough"s wood oven, the market will not let you down. If you are just looking to stock up on great stuff, the tasty cookie selection from "The Cinnamon Tree Bakery" will accompany your afternoon tea perfectly and the fantastic cheeses from "Mons Cheesemongers" will compose the best cheese platter for your evening drinks. Even the booze can be taken take off here - from very decent biodynamic wine options to aged Negroni cocktail mixes.

On a final note, the market has the best local feel and you won't see a single tourist there.

I can't recommend this place enough and I am sure you will love it just as much as I do after your visit. Enjoy!

Relentlessly popular. Great selection of eateries and artisan producers. By far the best market in the south east.

Amazing atmosphere, always brings the sun out on a Saturday morning! Beautiful place in the summer, with lots of yummy options on a lazy weekend!

On the verge of being too cool, but so what. Great food stalls, unique goods on offer, a friendly-despite-the-trendy atmosphere

Love love love this market - and it's handily our local market too. Amazing selection including raw dairy products, biodynamic fruit and veg (a step up from organic), spanish meats and cheeses, game and rare bred and properly butchered meat..awesome hot food..and try the hemp Bruffles (a cross between brownies and truffles)! To die for.

it's fun, it's full of great produce, it's warm even on a harsh wind day, it's a lovely precious market, no nonsense traders, but always happy to help and always giving helpful advice on how to make the most of their product, it's fantastic.

Fantastic local and seasonal produce. The egg and bacon on sourdough are pretty epic too!

Amazing buttermilk fried chicken and wraps. Has a selection of stalls - butcher, fishmonger, baker, coffee, vegetables, plants etc...

I go every weekend. Great food, great dogs and I bump into people I know. Only thing, could fit in a few more stalls. Used to have another butcher? Handy if one doesn't have the cut you want.

Brockley Market provides a local tapestry of food, drink and joy. There are local farmers, delis, bakers, brewers, florists and of course the, hot food and coffee is just to die for. The quality and the atmosphere is next to none. It is a small, friendly market that is always a buzz with happy tummies and smiles. Love it.

A gem of a market that has just the right mix of traders (Wild Organics veg, great fish, meat, cheese...) and street food and drink (Good and Proper tea for crumpets and expertly-brewed tea, Tongue 'n' cheek for the best bacon sandwich this side of London). My only complaint is that it isn't open for longer.

An awesome little market with stalls from local producers!! Veggies and fruits are a bit expensive, but everything else is a must see/taste. Blackwoods Chesse Company sells cheeses made just round the corner, The Butchery has the best bacon in town, and then, there's the good bread, olives, cakes, charcuterie, spices...

Also, a great selection of food trucks that will attract you just with their divine, mouth watering smells...

A treat for every Saturday!

Nice little market, not the best one around but totally worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Changeable stall with good mix of hot food and produce you’re likely to walk away with something tasty.

As with lots of these smaller markets it can be dubiously pried but with a little push (towards the end of the day) its easy enough to get a bargain!

Great selection of food trucks and market stalls of produce. A lot of the trucks don't serve food until 11:00 so best to come for brunch rather than breakfast. Stroll up to Hilly Fields afterwards for fantastic views of the city and Shard.

Brockley Market is a treat! There is an eclectic array of stalls every Saturday, all run by lovely, hard working local(ish) entrepreneurs. Its a place to hang out as well as buy and is a positive way to begin the weekend, whilst supporting independents. One of my favourite providers is Van Dough - artisan pizza par excellence at a really reasonable price!

Possibly the best thing in South East. Pick up some groceries from the farmers market after you've feasted on the myriad of street food on offer. Mother Flipper is a firm favourite, while Mike and Ollie knock out some great tasting wraps. Dark Fluid is on standby when you're in need of a caffeine hit.

Don't forget to load your wallet with cash.

Great place for food lovers.. U can expect some mouth watering burgers...

We came across this market by chance and now visit most Saturdays to buy some goodies and also time it to get some lunch. The stalls have some great food to buy - wild country organics has the best salad vegetables that taste great and also last a week and greenwich smoked salmon are two of my favourites. I would recommend a visit

Even in the rain its a Saturday must! I get all my weekly staples bread, eggs, sausages, cheese, veg, fruit and then I always get a weekly treat (or 5) smoked fish, fresh fish, meat, wine, pies, cakes, chocolates, jam ..........The nicest way to food shop and meet Saturday friends!

Fantastic fresh vegetables, flowers, cheese, eggs and fish, bread and cakes, pickles and olives… even ice cream….lovely atmosphere whatever the weather - and so many friendly stall holders. Go there and be tempted by local seasonal produce and go home and create new menus! But before you go home treat yourself to one of the street food options….or tea/coffee…or ice-cream. All in all a special and highly recommended experience for a Saturday morning.

Great local market, we never leave without a bag full of yummy food.

Best food market in London. Really nice atmosphere, with great food stalls that have lots on offer. Great vibe for a great saturday afternoon out.

Brilliant market- great flowers, bread, meat, cakes, organic British fruit and veg and lots of fab street food. Well worth a visit

Love the blend of stalls, the good mix of punters and happy chilled vibe. One of my favourite Saturday spots.

An absolute gem of a market. Amazing produce, delicious hot food and the best tea and coffee. The only way to spend a Saturday.

Super friendly traders, excellent produce, wonderful vibe and incredible street food.

Delicious food, lovely family atmosphere and lots of fantastic produce to take away and cook up some weekend treats. Well worth a visit!

Amazing market, friendly traders & great atmosphere. Quality produce and great street food. A perfect mix and the best way to start a Saturday.
