A stone’s throw from noisy Brick Lane is the new home of London’s one and only ukulele and banjo emporium. The shop stocks a wide range of new and vintage instruments in all shapes, sizes and colours. As well as ukes, there are also mandolins, harmonicas and a selection of amps. The Duke of Uke staff are knowledgable and able to give helpful advice. The store also offers group ukulele courses, priced at £110 for ten two-hour sessions, and holds regular gigs and events both in store and at other local venues. Brightly coloured ukuleles can be bought for £30, however, for keen beginners staff suggest spending £50 on a more robust model. Sheet music covers everything from Adele to Jimi Hendrix, The Beach Boys, ACDC, Black Sabbath and more. To find out about events, join the Duke of Uke’s Facebook page or mailing list.
When I decided to buy a ukulele and found this shop online I though "with a name like this it must be an awesome place"...and I wasn't disappointed. They have everything: like five hundred different ukes, books, bags etc. They also host special events (eg. I've been to a Guiness World Record attempt event), workshops and lessons. The staff is friendly and there is no question they can't answer.
Ukes galore with super- friendly and knowledgeable staff. Matthew and the team are completely passionate about ukuleles, as well as being incredibly talented musicians themselves. Buy a uke and sign up for a class - excellent teaching will get you playing in no time at all.
This is an amazing place. I took lessons here (level 1), and they were really fun. At the beginning I couldn't play a note, and by the end I could play three songs. Highly recommend.
Brick lane's one and only ukulele shop! Incredibly nice and helpful staff, will answer all your ukulele inquiries with good honest advice, I always feel welcome in this shop :D
