One of the best things about living in London are the opportunities you get to try new things and go to new places that might otherwise escape you. I may not be the most obvious target audience for a comic book shop but having been to this one several times recently, I’m absolutely now a convert.

As an avid bookworm who looks upon Kindles with disdain, prefers her books to be old and crinkly and has never been in a comic book shop in her life, I had no idea what to expect but the lovely people at Gosh Comics are equally at home helping newbies to the universe of the graphic novel as they are assisting long time lovers of Marvel, DC and the worlds beyond.

Located in the heart of Soho and set out over two levels, the ground floor is clearly laid out with large tables and floor to ceiling shelves making it easy to navigate, while rifling through the stock on the lower floor will make you feel like an extra on the set of ‘The Big Bang Theory’! Staff are super friendly and helpful, happy to direct you to what you need or point you in the direction of something new and exciting.

They have a great stock of the bigger comic franchises but are also huge advocates of smaller publishers and independent graphic novels from first timers which is what you’d hope for anywhere but especially in the heart of Soho, a place long known for its passionate, vehement support of all things slightly off the beaten track.

They run regular events like the hugely popular ‘Drink & Draw’ where people meet at the shop before heading to a nearby pub to partake of a beer or two while sketching, drawing and illustrating along the themes shouted out by staff or guest hosts and launch parties for comics new to the scene – both are a fantastic way to meet new people and even if your drawing skills mean that your dogs look more like elephants (guilty as charged!) you’ll be made to feel welcome.

There are too many things we already depend on the Amazon’s and EBay’s of the world for…we have to make sure we keep the smaller, braver, interesting alternatives open and thriving as well so get yourself down to Gosh and have a browse today – you’ll either make the comic book lover in your life very happy or find out that deep down inside, you are one too!

One of my favourite places in London. Not only do they have a really big selection of independent comics and loads of events to support the smaller artists but they also carry some of the important worldwide graphic novels too. There's stuff for every age group and loads of different styles of illustration too. I tend to walk in there looking for something, and leaving with a huge smile on my face with twenty new artists to look up. The staff are really helpful and all the indie stuff they sell makes the space a little bubble of heaven in Soho.

Not the biggest, but probably the best, comic shop in London, particularly for independent comics. Good layout, good selection, good location.
