I love this salon. Miss Betty is gorgeous and very creative with her styling. Going to a function? Show her a picture of your dress and she'll style your hair accordingly. I've have 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's dos, all amazing, loads of fun to wear, and never fail to receive compliments on my hairstyles.

I went for a haircut at It's Something Hells today after reading this page. At lunch time on a Thursday I was expecting to wait hours, but there was only one bloke already having his hair cut and I was next. Mr Ducktail shampoo'ed my hair and looked at the length while I had my head tipped back. He asked me about what I wanted, and I didn't know so I just pointed! Mr D knew exactly what I was talking about. I jumped in the barbering chair after that, and I was given a couple of options on how far up I wanted the fade on the side, and the length on the sides, and he went ahead. An interesting conversation and 40 minutes later and I was very impressed. He knew exactly what length was right, and used the thinning-out scissors in the right places (on the back especially, and also at the rear of the top) to really even out and balance my hair in a way that made what is essentially my normal hair cut, look so much better.

Thanks Mr Ducktail - you're a genius. You deserved a better tip, but I wanted some of your hair pomade too and you don't take card! I'll be back!

Best hairdressers ever! I had an appointment with Miss Betty and came out transformed with a glamorous retro hairdo. I had many bad experiences with hairdressers in this city before (namely such who claim to know how to do retro hairstyles, but do not have a clue). But you certainly can trust Miss Betty! She knows what she is doing and she does it very very well. I am stoked and will be back. And on top you will spend time in a beautiful salon, listening to rock n' roll.

I've been getting my hair cut at this place for years and in my opinion they do the best cuts. I have had to wait for a few hours occasionally to get a cut but a great cut is worth it. I've never been to a barbers that takes appointments anyway so don't see the problem. At times it's best to arrive as early as possible as later in the day you might get turned away, if you get there at 4pm and there's 5 guys waiting there's no chance of a cut. It's all about timing.

If your dedicated and a proper rocker, then you will get there early and wait. If your a pretensious wannabe then you will go late, expect a kut and then bitch on here about it when the proper rockers have the kuts that day. I normally spent at least 2 hours waiting just for them to open and im not normally the first in the queue. but it is fair to everyone and also means the dedicated get the rewards and not the one who get the booking in first.

Want Toulouse (sorry...) your dignity? Try getting a cut at this place. The dour, charmless French woman might tell you that a) they are too busy (there was one other bloke waiting in the salon) or b) that your hair is too short (the waiting bloke's hair was way shorter then mine). When I practically begged for a cut, even if to tidy up the sides, I was told (practically spat at) to "go and get the sides cut somewhere else". I dunno, maybe I just didn't have the right 'look' for this seemingly pretentious establishment... so off I went with my tail between my legs, my dreams of a retro cut left in tatters, and the memory of the hissing French lady etched firmly in my brain.

I only have one maybe one complaint. That one complaint being that you can not book a time slot, so its a bit hit or miss depending on the time you go. To be honest it isn't even that bad of a complaint as it makes it easily accessible for everyone and they are never fully booked, it may take a larger chunk out of your day waiting to be served but the results are well worth it. It's a very nice place and and very atmospheric with the music, movie posters and the staff dressed very 50's like. The staff there are very friendly and helpful. They have a variety of shampoos, conditioners and waxes, gels, and even t-shirts (for those of you who are particular fans of the place) for you to buy and offer advise on how to maintain your new hair cut. Very please with the service and will be going back there again. Converted hippie ;)

I've had my hair cut there before but I'm never going back again. I've just got back from a 3 hours round trip to his shop and was turned away because he was 'too busy'. This would be fine except I HAD actually called before coming because I know he is busy. They do not work on appointment so you have to take your chances- you could be waiting for 2-3 hours for a haircut and don't be surprised if you are turned away with no apology or way of fixing the situation, you just have to turn up earlier the next day and hope for the best. I find this way of working to be pretty disrespectful to clients. Pimps and Pinups are much better at organisation and do very good cuts as well. Or Murrays in Kingston.
