MDC enjoys one of the most privileged shopping locations in London, a riverside installation on the South Bank. The white walls, reverent atmosphere and abundance of light lend the store a slightly sterile air, but it remains a top place to browse CDs. These include classical music in all its forms, with entire shelves dedicated to the likes of Wagner and Vaughan Williams, not to mention a huge range of albums from modern composers like Karl Jenkins, John Tavener and Hans Zender. There are improved jazz and world sections, plus a recently extended selection of foreign and arthouse DVDs, which have taken over half the store. Opera buffs, however, may be better off making a beeline for the branch by the English National Opera’s Coliseum.
