Vinyl Junkies takes the business of record buying very seriously indeed. The stock is on black plastic only – as the name suggests – and the extensive selections of battle records, breaks samples and a capella compilations is a sure sign of the place’s affection for its male-heavy, DJ clientele. Eyes are initially drawn to the numerous reggae and dancehall seven-inches tacked to the walls, but there’s also a comprehensive collection of house music in all its geographical subdivisions (New York, Chicago, Detroit, West Coast). And there’s also a smattering of hip hop, disco, eclectic electronica and second-hand thrown in for good measure. Turntables are available for sampling potential purchases through headphones – which you’ll definitely need, what with staff spinning deafening floor fillers that shake the walls all day.
