For English National Opera, the Australian theatre director Benedict Andrews returns to make his directorial debut at the London Coliseum with the UK premiere of Detlev Glanert's 'Caligula'. Written in 2005-6, 'Caligula' is based on the play of the same name by Albert Camus. Glanert sees the opera as being about modern dictators such as Stalin and Hitler, and has said that the opera examines the self-destruction of the Roman emperor and the 'absurdity of the human situation'. Starring Peter Coleman-Wright, with Yvonne Howard (Caesonia) and Tamara Gura (Scipio). The conductor is Ryan Wigglesworth. (Sung in English.)
