Playwright Sam Grabiner made a big splash with last year’s toilet-set debut play Boys on the Verge of Tears, which netted the attentions of big name director James Macdonald. He’s back on board for Grabiner’s second play, which debuts at the prestigious Almeida. Named Christmas Day, it’s a dark comedy that follows a Jewish family who gather in an abandoned building on the big day. Beyind that rather cryptic set up, we’re told it’s about ‘identity, belonging, and the rituals we perform with the people we love’. A typically fine Almeida cast includes Jamie Ankrah, Samuel Blenkin, Callie Cooke, Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, Nigel Lindsay and Bel Powley.
