New-ish Orange Tree artistic director Tom Little continues his streak of big name castings with a take on the August Strindberg classic Creditors that will star Charles Dance, Geraldine James and Nicholas Farrell: a reunion of sorts as all three starred in the seminal ’80s TV series The Jewel in the Crown. The 1889 play traces a dark love triangle, as doting husband Adolph makes a new friend – Gustav – in his wife Tekla’s absence. But Gustav is a figure from Tekla’s past who is not who he appears at all.
The adaptation is by Howard Brenton, the same one that Littler directed at the Jermyn Street Theatre in 2019: it’s not quite creal if this is literally the same production but it’s presumably not too far off.
