Bram Stoker’s magnum opus Dracula has rarely been far from some sort of new adaptation: for starters there’s a big new one-woman take starring Cynthia Erivo hitting the West End early next year. First, though, here’s a version from playwright Morgan Lloyd Malcolm that retells the story from the perspective of the story’s women: Lucy (Mei Mac) and Mina (Umi Myers). It sounds like quite a free adaptation: Mina is described as the only suvivor of the events, although it’s not exactly clear what this means – actual revisionism, or is it simply set in the future when the other characters have passed away? All will be revealed when Emma Baggott’s production comes to the Lyric Hammersmith in September.
