This musical comedy about infamous FBI Director J Edgar Hoover comes with startling pedigree for the recently upgraded but still relatively small King’s Head Theatre. The creative team consists of Spinal Tap and Simpsons legend Harry Shearer, Seinfeld and Cheers writer Tom Leopold, and Barbara Streisand’s musical director, Peter Matz. Given Matz died in 2002 one can only imagine how convoluted Here Comes J Edgar Hoover’s journey to the stage has been, but here it is making its world premiere in a production directed by Josh Seymour. It’s a musical comedy about Hoover, the malevolvent, controlling apparatik who kept dirt of celebrities but was dogged by wild rumours about his sexuality.
