The Classical Opera Company presents Mozart's delightful serenata, featuring a fine cast of young singers and the company's acclaimed period-instrument orchestra under Ian Page. Mozart's ninth opera, 'Il Re Pastore' is set in the outskirts of Sidon in 332 BC. Alexander the Great has overthrown the tyrannical usurper Strato, and now wishes return the throne to the rightful heir, Abdolonimo, who has however been brought up as a humble shepherd and is unaware of his true identity. Alexander's attempts to restore the political status quo through an arranged marriage prove disastrous, but all ends happily.
