Jack and the Beanstalk
Time Out says
Panto veterans Clive Rowe and Tony Whittle co-direct this year’s Hackney blowout
It’s all change at the Hackney Empire following the departure of artistic director Susie McKenna: she actually left a while ago, but this is the first edition of Hackney’s beloved panto without her in aeons. As the panto’s director, writer and sometime star, she leaves a big hole to be filled. But fortunately Clive Rowe is just the man for the job: long considered London’s finest dame, he teams up with fellow panto veteran Tony Whittle to co-direct this year’s ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, in which both will also star, with Rowe as Dame Daisy Trott and Whittle as Councillor Higginbottom. It also stars Kat B as Simple Simon, Zoe Curlett as Fenella Fleshcreep, Julie Jupp as Fairy Fusia, Ellie Ruiz Rodriguez as Jill Higginbottom and Rochelle Sherona as Jack Trot. The Hackney panto’s rep is as the best in town, and you can’t see its new directors blowing it.
