Cape Town Opera and Chorus are coming to Southbank Centre to perform this musical tribute to the life of Nelson Mandela. Two composers have written a score that navigates a bewildering array of musical styles, from Xhosa folk music to jazz, swing, and contemporary opera.
It's all in the service of a story that takes Mandela from tribal beginnings, through youthful jazz-fuelled rebellion, to political dissidence and incarceration. A cast of 60, including three separate incarnations of Mandela himself, will bring this inspiring story to life.
