Hampstead Garden Opera presents an English verison of Claudio Monteverdi's take on the myth of Orpheus (setting a libretto by Alessandro Striggio.) Only through music Orpheus charm his way into the Underworld to reclaim his beloved wife-of-a-day, Euridice from the nether ruler Hades. But can he win her back permanently? Directed by Matthew Eberhardt, the cast is accompanied by an early music ensemble boasting theorbos, gambas, cornetti, recorders, harp and regal, directed from the harpsichord by Oliver-John Ruthven.
