New writing returns to the Globe summer schedule with this fresh take on Ovid’s parables of transformation
The end-of-summer-season new writing slot – a Globe staple under Dominic Dromgoole and Emma Rice – seems to not have quite the same place in Michelle Terry’s heart. But after no new work in 2019, this seems like a compromise: for 2020 a trio of writers – Sami Ibrahim, Laura Lomas and Sabrina Mahfouz – have been creating a new stage version of Ovid’s ‘Metamorphoses’ as part of a 12-month writing residency, with the suggestion that this process will form the basic blueprint for future Terry seasons. The production will be directed by Sean Holmes and Holly Race Roughan, and performed by the same Globe Ensemble Holmes is directing in ‘Twelfth Night’.
