Battersea Arts Centre has a major part to play in the history of immersive theatre, having been the home of Punchdrunk’s breakthrough show The Masque of the Red Death way back in 2007. Room 13 will be a very different beast, but it’s a return to the immersive medium for BAC, as award-winning Secret Cinema director Tom Maller helms a supernatural adventure that will play up until Halloween. Staged in the Great Hall, it’s built around the premise that during the restoration work for the fire that ripped through BAC in 2015, builders found a mysterious stone chamber that they unsealed, discovering something so horrifying the work ground to a halt. Now 11 years on, the chamber will be unsealed again… Note the short runtime (there are multiple entry slots per night), but presumably it’s going to be pretty intense.
