Based on Oscar Wilde’s play, Richard Strauss’s opera is an extraordinary mix of the erotic and the depraved. The violent, decadent story depicts the young princess increasing obsession with the untouchable prisoner, John the Baptist. It returns to Covent Garden in David McVicar's intense revival, with designs by Es Devlin. Starring Angela Denoke (Salome), Eglis Silins (Jokanaan), Will Hartmann (Narraboth), Stig Anderson (Herod) and Rosalind Plowright (Herodias). The conductor is Andris Nelsons.
