'The Count of Monte Cristo' has been postponed until 2013; new dates and booking period will be announced in August.
Richard Bean is an interesting choice to adapt Alexandre Dumas's classic tale of a falsely imprisoned young sailor's jaw dropping revenge on those who have wronged him. On the one one hand, Bean's 'London Assurance' and 'One Man, Two Guvnors' have been NT box office gold. On the other, 'Monte Cristo' may be wildly OTT in places but it's not actually a comedy, Bean's forte. That said, just because Dumas didn't intend it as a comedy doesn't mean Bean won't make it into one: more details to emerge later in the year for this, the NT's Christmas family show. Ages 10+.
