It is a con. If I were Julia Donaldson I would be very upset. Bad costumes which don't look like characters, bad acting, bad singing, bad script which leave out key lines from the book. Actually quite upsetting. All the children looked lost trying to work out why the snake is not hissing and instead is a Spanish party animal, why fox is a Del Boy trader, why grufallo's child looks like a fluffy bunny and why grufallo looks like a tramp in sack. Don't go!
I agree with the other reviewer that it was disappointing that the play didn't maintain the integrity of the original text which is so loved. My three year was confused, didn't recognise the Gruffalo because the costume was different and there were loads of irrelevant songs. The atmosphere of the text and illustrations is still, poetic and magical but this felt like bad panto. Not sure how they can get away with selling it as the Gruffalo's Child. Don't go.
