Set in the grim aftermath of the Russian revolution, Maxim Gorky's drama is a story of a corrupt former police chief who's trying to escape a government crackdown. He seems to be clawing his way back into power when his family find out the truth. Anthony Biggs directs this revival, in a translation by Cathy Porter.
