Regents Opera presents Mozart’s fairytale opera. Transporting the opera to a colonial hospital, director Nicholas Heath supplants freemasonry with a medical hierarchy. As a consultant doctor, Sarastro represents the moral order in opposition to matron (the Queen of the Night) and her three nurses. Recovering from a snakebite, Tamino sets out to rescue matron's beautiful daughter Pamina who is under the control of Sarastro. He is accompanied by the simple hospital gardener and birdcatcher Papageno, as all make their journey towards enlightenment. With Ben Thapa (Tamino), Norah King (Pamina), Michael Dewis (Papageno), Sian Winstanley (Queen of the Night) and Patrick Ardagh-Walter (Sarastro). Susanna Stranders conducts a reduced orchestra. (Sung in English in a new translation by Nicholas Heath.)
