As the nights draw in and the temperature drops, it's time to embrace the festive season with full force. After all, Christmas has a way of making the December evenings a whole lot more special - particularly when those evenings are spent enjoying festive live performances inside one of London’s most iconic buildings.

We are, of course, talking about the Royal Albert Hall, where there’s something for everyone going on this Christmas. From performances of John Williams’ charming music in Home Alone to Tchaikovsky’s beautiful score in The Nutcracker, via nights of soul, gospel and jazz – there’s plenty of winter warmers to discover. Whatever your vibe, pick the live performance that best suits your personality with our seasonal guide, sure to get you in the festive spirit.

For big kids

Nothing says ‘Christmas’ quite like a 30ft, HD screening of Home Alone, the festive favourite starring Macaulay Culkin, except, perhaps, its charming score by iconic composer John Williams performed live by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and the Crouch End Festival Chorus. From ‘Somewhere in My Memory’ to ‘Setting the Trap’, it’s a delightful trip down memory lane, brimming with magic, nostalgia and a few surprises along the way.

For swing lovers

A big band goes with Christmas like mistletoe and wine. Luckily, Guy Barker brings all the bells and whistles you’d expect – and then some – for one night only with his inimitable mix of jazz classics, festive oddities and unearthed treasures. The legendary composer and trumpeter will be joined on the famous stage by the likes of Clare Teal, Giacomo Smith and Naomi Banks to raise the roof and turn even the grumpiest ‘bah-humbugs’ into Christmas converts.

For little ones

Calling all little helpers: Santa has lost his map on a practice run of his delivery route. Luckily, hosts Tom and Timothy Redmond have found it, but they need you to help return it in time for Christmas Eve. Cue a family orchestral adventure that takes in frozen lakes, a festive sleigh ride and even a bear hunt with live performances from the BBC Concert Orchestra, the National Youth Choir of Great Britain and the Laine Theatre Dancers.

For smooth operators

Putting a seasonal twist on old-school soul and R&B classics, Trevor Nelson is back with the party to end all parties. Supported by the BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Troy Miller – together with a stellar line-up of very special guests – the award-winning BBC Radio 2 and Radio 1Xtra DJ will keep the vibes going on stage with an after-party set late into the night.
