Time Out says

A hit in Australia, this show from Kadimah Yiddish Theatre is an adaptation of Isaac Bashevis Singer's short story Yentl the Yeshiva Boy, which concerns a young woman living in the Polish shtetl who disguises herself as a boy in order to study the scriptures, something forbidden under Orthodox law. The story is most famous for the 1982 screen adaptation starring Barbra Streisand, which deviated quite considerably from the original – Gary Abrahams, Galit Klas and Elise Hearst’s adaptation (directed by Abrahams) brings it back to its original 1870s setting.
