Lose yourselves in the creative fun of the Gruffalo and other picturebook creations from Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler at Discover's immersive exhibition
The genius of the creative duo – children's author Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler – has given book lovers collaborations including 'A Squash and a Squeeze', 'Charlie Cook's Favourite Book' and many other picturebook classics, not forgetting 'The Gruffalo' of course! Many of the stories have become theatre shows and even TV productions, yet the original stories on the printed page need little help to fire our imaginations, so deft are Julia Donaldson's words and so wry are Axel Scheffler's drawings. This bockbuster exhibition at Discover in Stratford – running until September 2018 – is an immersive landscape of wonder and fun. Venture into forests, squeeze past a big cow, explore Monkey Puzzle jungle and basically 'fly', romp and play your way through a recreated universe filled with characters from their much loved picturebooks. It's a beautifully presented exhibition and visitor sessions last about 40 minutes each, to ensure it doesn't get too crowded. Suitable for ages up to eight (but older children welcome too).
