The Oscars of the book world is fast approaching. If you’re not sure who to root for to win this year’s Booker Prize, the Guardian has conveniently gathered all of this year’s shortlisted authors for an evening of readings and conversation, hosted by writer and critic Alex Clark. Then you’ll have eight days to buy and read the books you like the sound of before the winner is announced on November 19. If you do feel moved to buy the shortlisted books, we recommend using a new website called Bookshop, which has united loads of the UK’s favourite independent bookshops, including plenty in London, so you can bag a good read without helping to line the pockets of some mega-billionaire.
