One perspective of war that’s often forgotten is what it’s like to experience conflict as a child. What is it like to have the so-called carefree years of your life blighted by war? Or go through the usual growing pains surrounded by danger? The Imperial War Museum’s major summer exhibition aims to illuminate the impact of conflict on children, from the First World War to the present day. Through personal testimonies and interactive experiences, the exhibition will highlight the impact of war on day-to-day childhood life, from play and schooling to health, home life and safety.
Visitors can walk through a large-scale evacuee train carriage, join in recreations of 20th century wartime games, step into immersive recreations of historic rooms and see objects displayed for the first time.
