Every year Chisenhale, the East London venue that houses artists' studios, a gallery and a dance space, opens its doors for a weekend of events, but this particular one is special. This weekend marks Chisenhale's thirtieth birthday, so the current residents will be taking a look at the history of the place and how the work at Chisenhale has influenced the London art scene. Friday will be a big party type scene to start the weekend with a bang. The 49 Americans will be performing, plus Richard Layzell explores his old videos, detailing the effects of memory and lapsed time. To get Saturday's proceedings going, David Thorp, Chisenhale's original director, leads a discussion at the celebratory lunch. After that visitors can take part in craft workshops or classes detailing the role of citizenship in the way we walk, talk and write. Sunday is more of a family day, with performances, film screenings and a tea time ’80s disco aimed at all ages. Members of the community are also invited to bring photos, clippings and memorabilia to help contribute to Chisenhale's history timeline. Plus, running throughout the weekend will be various exhibits by the current artists in residence.
