2016 was controversial. No, we’re not talking politics, but the opening of ‘Punk London’ – the year-long celebration of the subculture that led Joe Corré, son of Vivienne Westwood and Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren, to burn five million quid’s worth of memorabilia, stating that punk should never be ‘a museum piece’. Joe had better steer well clear of Reykjavik, then, as the Icelandic capital recently opened an entire museum dedicated to punk.

In a suitably anarchic move, the Icelandic Punk Museum is located in a former public loo, where visitors can peruse an extensive collection of posters, videos and photos chronicling some of the genre’s finest moments in the country from 1978 onwards, plus listen to records and even have a bash at an array of musical instruments. Rocking.
