Dr Hans Sloane, His Collection and the British Museum

Who better than the Director of the British Museum, Neil MacGregor, to describe the extraordinary achievements of Dr Hans Sloane? Sloane was a physician, a natural scientist and – most importantly for this lecture – the collector whose artefacts were the foundation of the grand displays at the British Museum, which MacGregor will argue was the first national museum of the world.
