Yes, it get dark before 5pm – but that doesn't mean that London in winter isn't ripe for the 'gram. Moody skies, dramatic sunsets, spooky skeletal trees and those rare and beautiful fresh blue skies are perfect Instagram fodder, if you know the right places to snap them. Together with Transport for London, we've compiled the finest shots taken by the Time Out Tastemaker Community for inspiration. Thanks to TfL's adult off-peak fares starting from £1.50 – and their free and discounted travel for kids in London – embarking on your photographic odyssey is very affordable.

1. Start at the Tower of London for a bit of historical drama:

Getting there District or Circle line to Tower Hill.

2. Head to Hyde Park on a clear day to hang out with its prettiest residents:

Getting there Central line to Queensway.

3. Check out the views of Regent's Canal from the brick arches of Coal Drops Yard:

4. Shoot the South Bank skyline in the final few moments of sunlight:

TfL’s off-peak fares mean that your photographic adventures won't put a dent in your budget. Off-peak fares apply on all Tube, DLR, London Overground and TfL Rail services. You can tap into the wonderful world of off-peak every weekday before 6.30am, between 9.30am and 3.59pm, and after 7pm. Off-peak fares also apply all day at weekends and on public holidays. Travel by bus and tram for £1.50
TfL’s Hopper fare lets you take unlimited bus and tram journeys within one hour of first touching in for just £1.50. 

Travel into Zone 1 from £2.40
Fare shown is for an adult off-peak pay as you go journey from Zone 2 into Zone 1.

Travel in Zones 2-6 for £1.50
Fare shown is for an adult off-peak pay as you go journey not going via Zone 1 on Tube, DLR and most London Overground services.

Under 11s travel free!
All kids under 11 can travel free at any time on buses and trams. Up to four kids under 11 can travel free at any time on Tube, DLR, London Overground, and TfL Rail services when accompanied by an adult. An adult is anyone 16 and over using an adult rate ticket (but not a Group Day Travelcard), pay as you go or travel concession. Excludes Emirates Air Line, Santander Cycles and River services.
