Five amazing places to enjoy Christmas in Manchester

Leave the work woes behind and head out with Pepsi MAX this season

Christmas is quickly approaching. And while some of us can’t bear to think of the long gift lists and packed city centre streets, others are buzzing for the smell of freshly cut Christmas trees, the sound of carol singers filling the streets and the return of pigs in blankets (the GOAT roast dinner side). Of course, all of this is best enjoyed with Pepsi MAX to hand. Sack off the work stress and embrace the 'It Can Wait' mindset, which means turning the office brain off and going straight into fun mode.

We’ve found five fabulous places to enjoy the festive season, from the twinkling party yurt of The Lawn Club, to the hearty three-course feasts at Bill’s Spinningfields, there’s something for all tastes and interests.

Oh, and we’ve even popped them on an interactive map!

1. Salmon of Knowledge

This Irish pub in Media City offers a packed schedule of traditional and contemporary live acts alongside sporting events shown on the big screen. Hunker down here with a few Pepsi MAXs and soak up the proper Gaelic vibes (it’s really not just somewhere strewn with knick-knacks and memorabilia) while chowing down on a menu of pub classics, such as buttermilk fried chicken boxty with Guinness BBQ sauce.

2. Big Tray BBQ

Fancy the idea of 16-hour brisket, punchy jerk chicken and buttery lamb shanks served by the weight? Well, that’s exactly what you’ll find at this new venture from Brewski. The massive 5,000 square-foot space serves, quite frankly, mouthwatering barbecue bites that stay true to the crowd-pleasing American style of cooking. And pair perfectly with a freshly-poured Pepsi MAX. Make sure to come hungry, you’re going to find it hard to contain yourself.

Offering a cosy escape from the hustle and bustle of Manchester's Spinningfields, Bill’s is a trusted chain brand offering everything from bottomless brunches straight through to relaxed dinners in quirky surroundings. Plus, it’s got a hefty selection of gluten-free, vegan and kids' options – so all kinds of diners are well catered for.

4. The Lawn Club

If a picture-perfect party spot is what you're after, The Lawn Club is on hand to deliver. With three outdoor spaces for alfresco enjoyment, head to the yurt for twinkling light, floral adornments that hang from above and an Insta snap that needs no caption. Cosy up under sheepskin blankets with a boozy hot chocolate (or a classic Pepsi MAX) and listen to DJs spinning the best party anthems. Dancing on the tables is always encouraged here...

5. The Pen and Pencil

Spice things up with a visit to The Pen and Pencil: a bar and restaurant that takes its name from an infamous mid-20th-century bar on New York's Steak Row. While Mad Men don't frequent this bar, the vibe definitely pays homage to the NYC industrial era. Hear your favourite festive pop tunes to get in the mood, and three-course feasts, Crimbo buffets and sliders, washed down with cocktails, mulled wine and hot apple ciders. Not for the fainthearted and most certainly for the adventurous, this is a unique spot to visit.
