Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro is bringing his extraordinary new take on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein to the big screen this October. Londoners will get the chance to step inside his gothic imagination at a free, behind-the-scenes exhibition, held at The Old Selfridges Hotel, running from October 17 to November 9. Here’s why you need to book your free ticket.

1. Step inside Guillermo del Toro’s gothic imagination

This is no ordinary exhibition – it’s an immersive, gothic experience into del Toro’s creative world. Expect impressive film props, exquisite period costumes, beautiful artworks, and even Tiffany & Co. jewellery featured in the movie. This unmissable free showcase reveals the artistry of his crafts team and the devotion behind every monstrous detail. Fun fact: Tiffany & Co. has only ever lent jewellery to four films, and Frankenstein is one of them.

2. A tribute to Mary Shelley and her timeless masterpiece

Two centuries on, Frankenstein still feels just as radical and resonant. Rare books curated by the firm Peter Harrington will accompany the exhibition, reminding visitors that behind the monster and mayhem lies one of literature’s most daring stories.

3. It'll get you excited to see the Oscar-buzzing film

The exhibition opens the same day Frankenstein hits cinemas on October 17 (then on Netflix globally from November 7). It’s an exclusive sneak peek designed to get you excited for what’s already tipped as a major awards contender. In the past, del Toro has given us the celebrated macabre worlds of Pan’s Labyrinth and The Shape of Water, but Frankenstein, his childhood obsession, is the story where gothic horror first became his church. After its Venice premiere, the film received a 13-minute standing ovation, with Time Out calling it ‘Loud, bombastic, sublime… a universe in which towers totter above precipices, cellars drip hollowly and women wear impossible dresses in the snow’.

4. It’s free and part of LFF for Free

Blockbuster exhibitions in central London rarely come without a hefty price tag but thanks to Netflix and the London Film Festival’s LFF for Free programme, this unmissable showcase is free to the public this Autumn. Tickets are limited and will disappear fast, book yours now!

5. An atmospheric setting in the heart of London

Set in an abandoned hotel in central London, The Old Selfridges Hotel will transform into a  captivating playground for this tale of creation and destruction. It’s the perfect backdrop for a dark fairytale, packed with exquisite never-before-seen objects and costumes that brings Frankenstein’s world to life.

Book your free ticket now to Frankenstein: Crafting a Tale Eternal at The Old Selfridges Hotel, Oct 17 – Nov 9.
