Without wanting to state the obvious, if you go down to the British Council this month (and next) you can see some contemporary Afghan jewellery and – you guessed it! – gems. The array of treasures are on display to promote the traditional design and manufacture skills found in Afghanistan and explain how those are applied to modern day jewellery. Specially commissioned pieces made by Turquoise Mountain artisans will be on show, as will jewellery by UK designers such as Pippa Small, Hattie Rickards and Vicki Sarge.
