A new angle on the gender divide is revealed at this International Women's Day event. Panellists including Paola Albrito, head of the Europe Office of the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction, and Linda O’Halloran, Director of Thinking Development, a small NGO that is working with women in Haiti to rebuild education facilities after the 2010 earthquake, discuss how women are nearly always more affected by natural disasters than men in terms of loss of life, livelihoods and homes. The talk focuses on why this gender bias exists and what can and should be done to empower women. Those wishing to attend should register at genderanddisasters.eventbrite.co.uk.
