Rom-coms: cheesy feel-good guilty pleasures or important cinematic fodder for scholars? This daylong event focuses on academic research about one of cinema's longest running genres, the romantic-comedy. Taking place as part of Being Human, the UKs first national festival of the humanities, the event will combine round table discussions of the genre’s bad reputation with screenings of two rom-com classics, Ernst Lubitsch's 1940 'The Shop Around the Corner' and Nora Ephron's 1998 remake 'You've got Mail'.
