Determination, stout footwear and a packed lunch (and possibly tea as well) are a must if you're planning to take part in this 21-mile walk on south east London's Green Chain route. Rewards for the intrepid include miles of wonderful views, passages of lovely woodland and the general sense of forgetting that you are in a city at all as you walk from Crystal Palace (the station is the meeting point) to Erith under the guidance of a Green Chain official. Of course, because you are in a city there are opportunities to call it a day at any of the numerous public transport stops to be found near the route along the way.

When the sun comes out, the idea of conquering the great outdoors becomes very appealing and before you start thinking about The New Forest or any of the Peaks, I recommend you consider London’s “Green Walk”.

I have done only one of the many walking/cycling routes (from Beckenham to East Dulwich) and what a wonderful experience it was! On these routes, you reconnect with nature and remember that we are all One and how lucky we are to exist in this day and age. It also helps that the route is dotted with lovely English pubs and cafes!
