Determination, stout footwear and a packed lunch (and possibly tea as well) are a must if you're planning to take part in this 21-mile walk on south east London's Green Chain route. Rewards for the intrepid include miles of wonderful views, passages of lovely woodland and the general sense of forgetting that you are in a city at all as you walk from Crystal Palace (the station is the meeting point) to Erith under the guidance of a Green Chain official. Of course, because you are in a city there are opportunities to call it a day at any of the numerous public transport stops to be found near the route along the way.
