The Horniman hosts a Big Dance picnic in the gardens, in collaboration with Trinity Laban and Greenwich Dance. Events are inspired by the museum's current exhibition, 'Mummers, Maypoles and Milkmaids' by photographer Sara Hannant, and include performances of traditional Maypole, Morris and clog dancing. Contemporary dance will also feature, with workshops held in the museum's Gallery Square throughout the afternoon and a dance/theatre performance choreographed by Luca Silverstrini and performed by Greenwich Dance's resident company, Protein. During the afternoon, folk musicians and singers perform in the conservatory and on the recently restored bandstand. The picnic culminates in a ceilidh at 2:30pm.
