Time Out's anti-mulled wine festival, this year taking place at Night Tales.

Forget the sad mulled wine parties of your Christmas past. ’Tis the season for hot cocktails, as Time Out throws its very own festival of cockle-rocking tipples, Hotboozapalooza. The one-night anti-mulled wine event is taking place at Night Tales in Hackney in partnership with Hendrick’s, Monkey Shoulder, Glenfiddich and Reyka and will bring together hot drinks, hot tunes and a hot winter vibe.

Punters can try a fleet of toasty tipples – from warmed-up twists on the classic cocktails to modern takes on winter punch. Grab snacks from Night Tales’ resident Japanese izakaya Fat Baby or pizzeria Sons of Slice and soak up the festive atmosphere and disco tunes all in the shelter of the party-ready destination’s bare-brick railway arches and covered outdoor spaces. Things are sure to get steamy. Down with mulled wine; it’s hot cocktail time.

The idea behind this is great. A fab, well-kitted venue (heat lamps, plenty of seating, games, food, dance floor) and hot cocktails to warm your cockles - what's missing?

Good tasting cocktails, that's what.

I very rarely give a bad review, in fact, I think this is my lowest. But the cocktails were disgusting - I can drink most things, and I usually do. Two of these I had to leave (I even tried drinking them while holding my nose but I still ended up retching).

This could be remedied if you could buy different drinks (different tastes and whatnot) but that's not the case. So the main attraction is gross - lets down the whole idea?

Wow if you love cocktails and open bars then this TimeOut event certainly did achieve this.

There was so many hot unique inspired cocktails and punch to be had.  All the drink were delicious especially the Monkey Shoulder drink which had a delicious cream topping.

£20 for 4 cocktails certainly was worth the money as there was also entertainment provided from games to music.

The cocktails were average at the this event unfortunately and them being served in paper cups wasn't very exciting. The best thing about the night were the games, we played Kubb, Shuffleboard and vintage MarioKart, the food looked tasty but we didn't sample any. I liked the venue, which felt outdoorsy but without being cold. Some tastier cocktails would have made this event great!

Hotboozapalooza is a really good concept and idea near Christmas time where there is too much mulled wine around. The music was amazing, (I want the DJ to DJ my wedding if I ever have one) the venue was cool, we didn’t eat there but the food looked tasty and the games were fun. My only criticisms about are: unfortunately a couple of the cocktails weren’t great and they were all served in cardboard cups, which doesn’t shout cocktails to me personally, because when you think of cocktails you think high end fancy and made with love. The gin cocktail tasted like medicine and the vodka one had far too much rosemary in it which made it taste odd. The monkey shoulder one though, was like a tasty little dessert and I could’ve had 2. Also for £20 a ticket which includes 4 cocktails, it’s not bad value. A few tweaks made and this could’ve been faultless!

My plus one and I had a great night out here! We enjoyed all the drinks (especially the lemony vodka one), had some fabulous pizza, and got a bit over competitive over a game of Kubb...

Night Tales, the venue itself, is a really interesting place, and I definitely look forward to checking it out again in the warmer months.

Fair play, Time Out, a really good night out out.

I liked the concept of this event which is experimenting with hot alcoholic beverages and not having mulled wine as the only option. First of all, the venue wasn't probably the best choice. There were only a couple of food traders, and the layout of the venue was just a bit weird. Among the four cocktails that were included in the ticket, I honestly like one of them only (funkimonkey), the rest of them were too strong for me and didn't taste pleasant. Not sure if I will be going to this event again.
