[title]
Led by writer, broadcaster and teacher Dr Mark Vernon, this one-day crash course in philosophy explores the essential ideas posed by heavyweights including Nietzsche, Hobbes and Kant. A mix of talks, group discussions and a question session, the day will kick off with an introduction to Descartes, followed by a look at the different stances that have been taken when it comes to philosophy, empiricism and idealism. The second half of the day will focus on the key figures in the birth of liberal, enlightened ideas and wind up with an examination of the philosophy of both science and religion. No doubt your brain will be slightly frazzled with all that food for thought, so tea, cake and winter punch will be served to keep you fuelled throughout the day.
